The Irregular at Magic High School film comes to UK cinemas in November
Yotsuba Succession Arc brings Tatsuya and Miyuki’s family power struggle to UK cinemas on 4 and 5 November 2026.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring The Irregular at Magic High School THE MOVIE – Yotsuba Succession Arc – to UK cinemas on 4 and 5 November 2026.
The film will screen in Japanese with English subtitles, giving fans in the UK a theatrical look at the latest chapter in the long-running magic-school franchise.
A family succession with very high stakes
The story takes place in 2096, almost a century after magic became established as practical technology. Tatsuya Shiba and his younger sister Miyuki are approaching the winter of their second year at Magic High School when an invitation arrives for the Yotsuba Clan’s New Year’s Banquet.
The banquet will reveal the next head of the Yotsuba Clan, one of the most powerful magical families in the series. Miyuki fears that becoming head would end her current life with Tatsuya, because the position would require her to marry.
At the same time, taking the position would allow Miyuki to change Tatsuya’s status. As a Guardian, he has long been treated with disdain, and Miyuki hopes that becoming clan head will give her brother greater freedom.
The film’s central decision is therefore both personal and political: Miyuki must decide whether to accept power at the cost of the life she knows, while Tatsuya faces the consequences of a succession battle he never asked for.
Returning and new cast
Yūichi Nakamura returns as Tatsuya Shiba, with Saori Hayami as Miyuki Shiba, Chiwa Saitō as Maya Yotsuba and Emiri Katō as Fumiya Kuroba.
New cast members include Daisuke Ono as Katsushige Shibata and Ai Kayano as Yuuka Tsukuba. LiSA performs the theme song YES.
Jimmy Stone directs the film at 8-Bit, with Munemasa Nakamoto handling the script and Kana Ishida overseeing character design and chief animation direction. Taku Iwasaki composes the music.
A long-running magical world
Tsutomu Satou’s original light novel series began in 2008 and concluded with its 32nd volume in 2020. The franchise has also produced television anime seasons, the 2017 film The Girl Who Summons the Stars and the Honor Student at Magic High School spin-off.
The third television season premiered in 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming it with English subtitles and an English dub.
Our opinion
The Yotsuba succession storyline is a strong choice for a theatrical film because it puts the series’ most interesting tension where it belongs: inside the family, not just in another magical brawl.
The conflict gives Miyuki a decision with genuine consequences and lets Tatsuya’s strange position within the clan become more than background lore. He may be absurdly powerful, but power has not made him socially free.
A subtitled UK cinema release is also the right approach for a story this dependent on names, relationships and magical politics. Fans are likely to want the original performances, while the big-screen presentation should give the film’s supernatural set pieces room to breathe.
